What a brilliant busy week it has been. Mrs Brown and Miss Bottrell had a fantastic day in Sheffield on Wednesday learning all the songs and actions for our Young Voices concert in January. All the places are now full and children will be learning the songs during singing assembly - if your child has come home singing in Swahili the song Kusimama you now know why! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZdUwI4SRmY

Next Tuesday we are very excited about our first Ethiopian Day where the children can come in the colours of the Ethiopian flag  (green, yellow, blue or red) and bring in £1. We are raising money to help them purchase a donkey library! The children will be doing a range of different activities from all aspects of the curriculum themed around this. We will also be presenting their work on Thursday morning in the hall from 9.15am which we hope you can join us for.

This week has been particularly exciting for Junior 1 who went on a residential to Walesby with Langar Primary School. We try and work closely with Langar as they also feed into Toot Hill enabling the children to develop friendships that will last into secondary school.  All the children have had a fantastic time doing a wide range of activities and have all tried something new. It was my absolute pleasure to join them today and see them in action there are some brilliant photos on twitter so I would advise you to have a look and see what they got up to: https://twitter.com/gunthorpecofeps

What a fantastic week we have had at Gunthorpe. It feels like a long time ago now but it was only last Saturday we held our most successful gala yet. A huge thank you to FoGS for all their hard work organising everything and we are delighted to let you know over £2,500 was raised on the day! In a time when school budgets are increasingly tight this money makes a massive difference to the opportunities we are able to provide for your children.

This week has been one of great sporting success for the school with all Junior 2 girls attending a Girls Physical Activity festival- they had to see how many laps they could complete in 25 minutes constant running and Summer did brilliantly to achieve a total of 5. They all told us enthusiastically how much they enjoyed it, especially those year 6s who had been last year as year 5s. Our boys football team (also from Junior 2) took part in their first match on Thursday night after only one training session. It was an incredibly tight match and only the last kick of the game meant that they eventually drew 3-3. Mr Tyler spoke so enthusiastically about how well all the boys played and especially their sense of team work throughout. I know there is already another match lined up so we look forward to hearing all about it!

    On to our brilliant book...

Infant 1- Dax and Rupert- both in the brilliant book because despire the fact that both boys are only preschoolers they have been joining in with the phonics sessions and can now hear and match rhyming words.  They are also beginning to recognise some sounds. Well done boys!

Infant 2- Writer of the week - Alex B - for a fantastic character description of the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. Please do have a read below...

Autumn- for her fantastic mathematical understanding of teen numbers. She was able to explain the tens and ones in two digit numbers and once she had completed her work chose to stay and help her friends.

Seth- is in this week for his genius maths brain. He has showed real understanding of his place value and really impressed Mrs Brown and Miss Bottrell this week.

Lissie- Mrs Brown was so impressed by your enthusiasm. She described you as just a brilliant learner, always ready to listen and take in lots of new information!

Junior 1- Olivia and Freya- for their excellent fable writing using embeded speech, joined writing and powerful additions such as adjectives and adverbs.

Evie and Toby- for working independently for a sustained time on their online mathletics homework. Well done to you both, such mature attitudes towards learning.

Junior 2- George- really good English work adding adverbials to improve sentences.

Melissa- For excellent work in English adding relative clauses to your sentences.

  • Summer Reading challenge

    Fri 13 Sep 2019

Over the holiday we held our own Summer Reading Challenge and we were absolutely blown away with the results. We had 39 children complete the challenge and an additional 6 children had a go and handed their forms in even though they did manage to complete 15 of the challenges. A big thank you to all those who joined in the fun they all got a prize in assembly today to say well done.

We also challenged the children to see how many unusual places they could find to read in and the top 3 entries  were Connie- Harry Potter Studios, Rhys mid bounce at Planet Bounce and Jacob on a theme ride! All 3 children have won a £5 book voucher which they also received today in assembly.

We have exciting plans for Reading this year at Gunthorpe as we hope to develop some Reading ambassadors from each year group.
