  • Welcome Mrs Harvey

    Thu 12 Sep 2019

This year Mrs Perry will not be teaching every week at Gunthorpe. She has worked at the school for many years and has been fantastic at supporting music and gardening within the school. We are all so grateful for the amazing enthusiasm and energy that she has brought to the school especially with the superb concerts and productions she has been involved with. We are all going to miss her but hoepfully she will continue to be able to continue to teach, all be it less frequently - I know Junior 2 loved seeing her yesterday!

Today Mrs Harvey started as a music specialist for the school. She will be teaching Junior 1 and Junior 2 on a Thursday afternoon for this Autumn term. Mrs Harvey is a very experienced primary teacher with a specialism in music.  I know that the children will make her feel really welcome and I hope she feels part of the Gunthorpe team straight away.

  • Aldi's Kit for Schools

    Fri 06 Sep 2019

This term we’re collecting Team GB stickers with Aldi’s Kit for Schools for the chance to be one of 20 primary schools to win £20,000 to build a health legacy at our school!

From 6 September–3 November, when you spend £30 or more in any Aldi store, you’ll receive a special Team GB sticker – if our school works together to collect 300 stickers, we will automatically receive an exclusive school sports kit, in addition to entry into the £20,000 prize draw!

Please send any stickers you receive into school with your children, or bring them in yourself  to add to our collection box in the school office, and we will add them to our Aldi’s Kit for Schools sticker poster.

The Aldi’s Kit for Schools campaign supports the aims of Get Set to Eat Fresh, Aldi and Team GB’s award-winning school’s programme, which has already beaten its target to reach 1.2 million young people in the UK by 2020, reaching over 1.5 million young people since its inception.

Throughout the autumn term, we will be trying out Get Set to Eat Fresh’s fun and engaging resources to create healthy moments in assemblies and the classroom, alongside setting occasional take-home tasks and challenges. We appreciate your support in helping pupils to complete these activities and hope you will enjoy finding out more about the campaign and the healthy challenges we complete.

We hope everyone will enjoy collecting Team GB stickers and exploring healthy eating this term. Remember, Aldi’s Kit for Schools Team GB stickers are available until 3 November when shopping in any Aldi store. We will keep everyone up to date with how many stickers we have collected, and how many we have to go!

If you want to find out more about Aldi’s Kit for Schools you can visit getseteatfresh.co.uk/kitforschools, or get in touch with the school for more information on our plans.

Thank you so much for your support on this project – we look forward to receiving any stickers you collect!

  • Masterchef Final

    Fri 12 Jul 2019

On Tuesday our final 5 contestants went to Tom Browns for our Junior Masterchef competition.

They had a fantastic time and had 2 challenges to complete. The first was to create a plate of perfectly scrambled eggs. They were presented with eggs, cream, milk, butter and salt and given no further instructions! They all did a splendid job and it was very close to judge.

The second challenge was plating up a desert that Tom Browns recently served at an Alice in Wonderland event. They were each provided with a piece of strawberry cheesecake and had to plate it up after watching the head chef demonstrate.  All 5 of their desserts looked, and tasted, delicious!

It was a very close final but the winner was Erica! A huge well done, to Oliver, Jaby, Hannah and Orla who all did incredibly well and should be very proud of themselves.

We have had a fantastic week with Sports Day on Tuesday and Junior 2 taking part in a play in a day all about Reduce, Reuse and Recycle- do watch the video on Junior 2 class page to see how brilliant they all were!

    On to our brilliant book..

Infant 1- Alex and Jake for their fantastic observtional drawings of leaves. They looked really carefully and took their time including lots of detail

Infant 2- All of year 1 were nominated for being so well behaved and sensible at swimming especially this week. They beat all the juniors getting changed and were a pleasure to take.

Ella J- For her fantastic use of sentence stems to explain her thinking in maths.

Junior 1- For all year 4s who went to Walesby for representing our school so well. So many of them recieved their values certificate today because they showed how well these were engrained and lived out when they were away. It was fantastic to hear about all the fun things they got up to- especially the water fight!

Junior 2- Mr Tyler wanted to put all the class in the book for 2 fantastic reasons. Firstly for all their help running sports day, it would not have been so smooth without their service. Ensuring others were able to have a go at all the sports rather than taking part themselves the whole time.  Secondly for their fantastic performance in the play in a day.  They all demonstrated great determination to learn all their lines and directions!
