This week has been a joy to be at Gunthorpe as classes start getting ready for our Christmas festivites. The stage has gone up and rehersals for nativity begun, the juniors are learning Christmas songs from around the world and sounding beautiful.   We had a fantastic stay and read event with lots of families joining us to share a book on Thursday. Junior 2 had a fantastic trip to the National Holocaust Centre were they all demonstrated such respect and asked such intelligent, mature questions. Mr Tyler, Mrs Dewick and myself were incredibly proud of them. Incase you aren't already in the festive mood we have the Gunthorpe Christmas light switch on tonight with a lantern walk and carols in the church. I do hope you will join us there.

What a fantastic week we have had, we found out our year 5/6 athletics team are into the top final and they are working hard to prepare for that in the final week of this half term. We had a company called now press play in to demonstrated a brilliant fully immersive audio experience to enhance their learning on climate zones and the arctic. On Thursday we held our rearranged parents evening and it was so lovely to hear such positive feedback from parents and staff. If you did have a feedback form it is not too late to return those. We love hearing from parents about how their child is getting on. Finally we had our book fair which started on Thursday and is running until next Thursday when we will also be holding our stay and read 8.15-9 in the hall.

We were incredibly proud of 2 junior 2 boys this week for out of school achievements. Ali has been selected to train as part of Notts County Cricket club- a huge well done and we look forward to hearing about future competitions. Also Oliver B wrote a beautiful poem reflecting on remembrance which he read for us all in assembly and was incredibly moving. Thank you for taking the time to write it and bring it in to share Oliver.

I hope you all enjoyed the 2 week half term, it was lovely to welcome the children back looking so enthusiastic and ready for a jam packed Autumn 2 term. This term is always one of my favourites in the lead up to Christmas but it is also particuarly busy!

This week has been Anti-bullying week and all the classes have been looking particuarly at how to keep themselves safe online. I will be providing more details in the newsletter but leaflets will be avaliable during parents evening next week regarding how you can support children at home. All classes have also made a wreath this week in preperation for Monday when we will hold a minute silence at 11am for Remembrance Day.

2 children who deserve a special mention in the blog this week are Harriet and Lyla P.

Harriet didn't let us know that over the summer she won Lowdham librarys summer reading challenge with a fantastic goodie bag of prizes. Well done Harriet!

Lyla spent her half term making excellent use of her artistic abilities to paint some beautiful pictures that she then sold to raise funds for our Link Ethiopia Charity. She made an incredible £44! We are so impressed with her act of service.
