  • Merry Christmas!

    Thu 17 Dec 2020

As the last day draws to an end it is so lovely to see the children around school enjoying some fantastic Christmas fun.  Junior 2 waft the stocking is causing children's competitive  side to come out!

Over this week all children have enjoyed their Christmas party and it has been so lovely to see them relaxed and happy alongside their friends and teachers. Christmas dinner, although slightly different with children sitting in their bubble, was a huge success and children really enjoyed eating with their teachers.  A big thank you to Claire our cook for making it happen!

The elf in Infant 1 has been up to all sorts of tricks moving all of their bags onto the ceiling last night!

We already have some fantastic examples of children demonstrating our service value at home throughout December.  Please keep emailing in photos and captions of what the children get up to over the holiday.

Thank you so much for all your donations to Framework through our alternative advent calendar- every year we are overwhelmed by your generosity.  It makes such a difference to those who struggle this Christmas.

We hope you all have a very lovely Christmas

    Take care and stay safe,

  • Marvellous Monday 7th December

    Mon 07 Dec 2020

What a fantastic week we had last week.  Lots of children have continued to bring in their alterative advent gifts which fits in with the themes for Comfort and Joy as part of the second week of advent.  This week we are thinking of the joy of giving and receiving gifts but also the anxiety that not comes from having enough money to be able to purchase gifts.

This week the filming for the nativity begins and we are so excited to share all the hard work that the children have put into learning their lines, songs and signs.

Infant 1- Sebby was such a star this week and Mrs Findlay was really proud of all his hard work, especially on Friday!  Teddy was the super sentence writer of the week and he even included several red words spelt correctly!

Infant 2- Seb you maths work has clearly paid off with telling the time to o'clock and half past.

Cara - well done for your brilliant writing this week with some fantastic extended sentences.

Pheobe- your writing really impressed Miss Bottrell too this week with great extended noun phrases.

Junior 1- Amy, Laci-Mai and Lyla P- for being a fantastic trio in gymnastics. Mrs Brown was so impressed with your timing, skill and teamwork.

Junior 2- Isobel and Summer- for real determination and perserverance in maths last week during division.

Several parents have asked about Christmas cards- could we ask they these are just for your child's class. If they could bring them in by next Tuesday 15th December and then they will be quarentined and handed out on the final day.

    Many thanks

    Tue 01 Dec 2020

The 1st of December marks the start of Advent as we count down to Christmas.  This week we began following the Church of England advent programme of Comfort and Joy- remembering that whilst for many advent is a time of excitement, for some it is a time of anxiety and concern.  This year many of the acts of service that we would normally do in this final half term we have not been able to do. We have therefore produced a grid of acts of service in keeping with the idea of spreading comfort and joy across our whole school community.  I would love to receive notes, emails, photos anything showing when the children have completed any of the acts of service.  Please either send these on paper in children's book bags or email head@gunthorpe.notts.sch.uk

One of the suggestions is a donation to Framework as part of our alternative advent calendar. All children should have brought home a letter which had their number on.  Any number above 18 please bring in on the last day of term.

Today we launch our advent trail around the village. A map showing the location for 7 characters from the nativity story is avaliable to download or we have some printed in the entrance hall. We have some stickers on order for those children who complete the trail.

On Thursday, Rev Anna Alls is leading us in a Christingle service over zoom in school.  We would love for all children to make a Christingle at school following this- please could we ask for donations of oranges in order for us to facilitate this (large ones work better if possible please).  If you are able to bring in a bag by Wednesday so we know if we have enough that would be fantastic!

    On to our Brilliant book...

Infant 1- Oliver for working so hard on forming his letters and especially with writing his name. Mrs Findlay is so impressed with how hard you are working.
Lewis- for remembering the super sentence and for being such a phonics super star. You are taking such care with all your work Lewis!

Infant 2- Lauren for sharing so many ideas of different ways to be kind in PSHE (You should be brilliant with our service grid Lauren!)

Anders- for such enthusiasm and perserverance in phonics.  Your concentration is making such a big difference to your reading and writing. Well done!

Junior 1- Georgie-Mae- for your independence in maths and learning a new method with confidence.

Heidi- for learning how to use number lines to answer your division questions even with remainders.

Junior 2- Mr Tyler couldn't choose just one- he is so proud of you all for working so hard at home and we can't wait to see you back in school on Wednesday.
