  • Marvellous Monday 28th February

    Mon 28 Feb 2022

What a fantastic first week back we had last week. Junior 1 had a brilliant time with their Egyptian day and there are some great photos here and here.  We also had our rearranged FoGS disco which was such a great evening and all the children seemed to be having a fantastic time!

This week we have pancake day leading into the start of lent, we also have the launch of Junior Masterchef with all junior children making a pizza on Tuesday.  Thursday is also world book day. Plenty to look forward to.

    On to our brilliant book...

Infant 1- Isaiah - well done for settling in so well and making some friends already, we love having you at Gunthorpe.

Layla M- for some superb independent writing. You really tried hard to sound out all your words by yourself.

Infant 2- Ava- for a super spooky setting piece of descriptive writing.
Lewis- for such an excellent effort with your maths work, you really blew Mrs Owens away.

Teddy- for a brilliant effort with your homework all about the big freeze, it must have taken you a long time so well done!

Junior 1- Frankie and Lissie- for some fantastic reading comprehension. You really listened carefully to how to answer different styles of questions and did a good job.

Junior 2- Jacob and Noah - for a fantastic score of 10/10 on your world atlas quiz.

Callum, George, Thomas and Cameron- for superb maths work on co-ordinates you listened hard in class in order to fully understand.

  • Diversity at Gunthorpe

    Tue 22 Feb 2022

All last half term we were looking at our whole school value of Respect.   Our bible verse that underpins this value is Matthew 7:12 - The Golden Rule “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets"

This year we wanted to encourage the children to think about the diversity of our world and consider how they would show respect in the face of issues such as racism, disability, sexism and homophobia.  We wanted the children to be challenged to think differently about respecting themself and the respect they show to others.

Over the half term in our collective worship assemblies we looked at the lives of individuals such as Martin Luther King Jnr, Rosa Parks and Paralympians including Richard Whitehead. We purchased a range of new texts for children to share in class and invested in more multicultural play resources in Infant 1.

Over the last week the children accessed a range of different activities and created some fantastic work reflecting on what they had learnt.  We had hoped to be able to share this with the whole school however due to a covid outbreak this was not possible.  We have however attached photos of the work produced below for you to enjoy.

  • Happy Lunar New year

    Tue 08 Feb 2022

On Wednesday 2nd we celebrated Chinese New Year across the school. Some of our students who previously lived in Hong Kong made some fantastic powerpoints which they shared with their classes about what it is like in Hong Kong and why it is so important to them.  The children in Infant 1 and 2 made some amazing tigers (this year is the year of the tiger), paper lanterns and had a go at writing in mandarin!
