What a fantastic first week back after a eventful half term in the village. It was great to welcome all the children back and be thankful that the flooding wasn't as bad as had been forecast. We launched our #Livelent campaign thinking about making promises for how we can take care of God's world and make our school more sustainable. This week we were focusing on light and saving energy. I hope the children have been making an effort at home too!

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming a Storyteller into school on Monday as part of our world book week. Hopefully you will have seen the flyer full of information about what is happening all week including the stay and read and book swap. Please note the official world book day is on Thursday however as Junior 2 are on a trip we will be dressing up as a book character of your choice on the Friday.

A big well done to the Lacrosse team who, before half term, won all 4 games they won at a tournament. The standard of Lacrosse was fantastic and all 6 children worked so well as a team and all scored at least 1 goal. An amazing achievment!

    On to our brilliant book...

Infant 1- Super sentence writer- Eleanor- for trying really hard to write and sound out words on her won. Well done!

Marcel- for a fantastic start in Infant 1, making lots of new friends and trying lots of new activities.

Infant 2- Writer of the week- Rhys- for an excellent character description of Katie Morag with great presentation. Miss Bottrell was blown away by the standard (a picture is below for you to see!)

Georgie- for showing great determination in maths to explain her working out. You didn't give up and really impressed all your teachers this week.

Lissie and Ella J- for taking great care of your spellings  and taking time to get all your writing accurate. Miss Bottrell couldn't choose between you. Well done girls!

Junior 1- Frances- for the massive improvement in your reading. Mrs Palethorpe has heard you read so fluently and with such expression she was amazed how good you are now!

Harrison- for your determination and hard work persevering with reading. This will really help you when you become a journalist or author. (Just don't forget us!)

Pollyanna and Lyla P- for their excellent headings for the paragraphs that they read. Great word choices and efficient use of the themes.

Junior 2- Evie B and Erica- Super maths work calculating missing angles.

Riley, Ben and Ali (work shown below)- super maths work with a protractor measuring and drawing angles accurately.

This term is flying by with only one more week- don't forget it is an INSET day on Friday 14th February. A very big congratulations to Josh who represented Rushcliffe at the Nottinghamshire County Cross Country championships last weekend and came 2nd. He will now go on to the national finals and represent Nottinghamshire. A truely fantastic achievement- we are all very proud of you at Gunthorpe.

Well done to the 5 children also recieving values certificates- Jacob, Connie, Ben, Heidi and Ella S. You have all collected 7 stickers for determination or service and have shown us all how well you demonstrate our whole school values. It was lovely to see how many children are very close to recieving a certificate so hopefully we will see more parents joining us on a Friday afternoon very soon.

    On to our Brilliant book...

Infant 1- Super sentence writer: Ava for some fanastic writing today. Ava wrote all by herself sounding out her words and writing some red words as well.

Henry- for an amazing interpretation of Monet's Waterlillies. Henry chose some fantastic colours and created the background and foreground with lots of care and concentration. Well done.

Infant 2- Writer of the week: Lauren- for putting 100% effort with her writing to create a really great polar bear non fiction book.

Georgie- for a brilliant effort in maths this week. Really pushing herself to move away from concrete resources and do working out in her head.

Anders- for being really thoughtful and considerate. He showed good manners and kindness to others.

Junior 1- Frances and Jack- for being excellent buddies on Wednesday morning. They shared what they knew, listened to each other and completed their work to the best of their ability.

Krishan, Noah and Oliver- for their detailed storyboards and careful choice of words to use. They took such care with their presentations too.

Junior 2- Chloe, Jiamin and Connie- for writing some fantastic pensive memories. They also took care of their presentation and really made Miss Burton smile when she was reading them.
