PSHE
At Gunthorpe, we use the SCARF PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) scheme of work to support pupils’ personal development, wellbeing and life skills. The programme provides a structured, age-appropriate curriculum that helps children to understand themselves, manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, stay safe and make positive choices.
SCARF actively promotes British Values by encouraging respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, developing an understanding of democracy, promoting individual liberty, and fostering a strong sense of mutual respect and responsibility. Through discussion, reflection and collaborative activities, pupils learn how to contribute positively to their school and wider community.

D.A.R.T. Programme
(Drug Awareness and Resistance Training)
As part of our commitment to keeping children safe and informed, Junior 2 pupils take part in the D.A.R.T. programme (Drug Awareness and Resistance Training) every two years.
The programme is delivered in an age-appropriate, child-friendly way and focuses on helping children:
Understand what medicines and drugs are, and how to use medicines safely
Learn about the risks of harmful substances (including cigarettes, alcohol and illegal drugs)
Develop confidence to say “no” and make safe choices
Practise skills for dealing with peer pressure
Know where to go for help and support if they are worried or unsure
Lessons are based around discussion, role play and practical scenarios, allowing children to ask questions and build their understanding in a safe, supportive environment.
The D.A.R.T. programme supports our school’s wider PSHE curriculum and helps children develop the skills they need to stay safe, make positive choices and grow into responsible, informed young people.
