Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We hope that the following information will answer your questions and outline the way in which we at Gunthorpe Church of England School support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
The school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO) is Anna Owen and our Governor with responsibility for SEND will be confirmed in September. If you would like to speak to Anna Owen, she can be contacted via the school office on 0115 966 3481 or via email at office@gunthorpe.notts.sch.uk
At Gunthorpe C of E Primary School we are committed to providing an inclusive environment for all. We want to ensure that all children, regardless of their special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make the best possible progress in school and feel safe and valued. We aim to provide every child with a broad and balanced education. We embrace the fact that every child is unique and therefore, the educational needs of every child are different. There are a wide range of special educational needs for which children may need extra support, sometimes these needs are short term while others may continue through a child’s school life. In our school, pupils will be provided with high quality teaching adapted to suit the diverse needs of all learners.
Our SEND vision
At Gunthorpe C of E Primary School, we believe that every child, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, can succeed and flourish. We are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious environment where all pupils are supported to achieve their full potential.
Through high-quality, adaptive teaching and a graduated approach to support, learning is carefully sequenced, accessible and responsive to individual needs. We value the strengths of every child and remove barriers to learning so that all pupils can develop confidence, independence and resilience.
Working in partnership with families, professionals and the wider school community, we enable children with SEND to persevere, feel safe, and take pride in their achievements. Rooted in our Christian values, we ensure every child is known, valued and loved to let their light shine as they learn and grow together in a respectful and supportive school community.

Nottinghamshire Local Offer
What is the Local Offer?
The Local Offer is part of the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) reforms from the Children and Families Act 2014.
There are two main purposes for the Local Offer:
- to improve information about services and provision available for families, children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and to make it easier for all families to find this information by making it available in one place.
- that by working directly with families, children and young people on developing the Local Offer, Local Authorities and Health partners can improve provision.
Nottinghamshire’s Local Offer includes leisure and activity providers, health and care services, education providers and support groups.
The Local Offer is provided to help you find services more easily
